I finally finished "An Unquiet Grave" by P. J. Parrish. Its a mystery, but one that didn't really hold my attention. It did get a little bit better near the end, but for the most part, was slow and uninteresting. It was a shame, really, because the description on the book cover made it seem so much more exciting. I hate wasted potential in a book! Maybe the person who wrote the cover has a novel coming out soon. ;) I guess that this is what I get for choosing a book from the extremely limited selection at K-Mart.

Last night I watched a movie on the Sundance Channel called "The Match". I love watching movies that come from somewhere other than Hollywood. Even if it's not a brilliant movie, you still have a little something extra.
13th-Feb-2006 11:55 pm - Bizarre Food Associations
momo
I was talking to a friend the other day about bizarre food associations, everyone has them to some extent. It was suggested that I retell my story in my blog for all the world to see. As proof that I CAN follow advice, even if I normally choose not to, I decided to go for it.

My weird food association began a long, long time ago when I was about 5 or 6 years old. We lived in Clovis, NM back then. I had gone to a furniture store with my parents, and the store was having some sort of huge sale. Balloons, streamers, and even Darth Vader were used to draw in customers. Is WAS the 80s, after all. We pulled into the parking lot, and I could see all of the decorations and Vader, himself. I remember getting out of the car, and walking across the parking lot with my parents. When we got close to the store, Darth Vader walked up to me, and in the least-likely evil spaceman manner, handed me a dum dum. If course I just stood there staring at him for a few minutes, but finally I took the lollipop and followed after my parents into the store. I suppose that it was a good move on the part of the store, because it definatly stopped the kids from throwing tantrams while their parents purchased new dinning room tables to their heart's content.

So basically, to this day, I can not think of dum dums with out thinking of Darth Vader, or vice versa.

I need therapy!

Everyone knows that Tuesdays, in the DVD world, mean new movies. Rarely is there a movie that I want to run right out and get, but I really did want to see Elizabethtown. Maybe because I've got this weird fixation with Orlando Bloom (and I'm soooo not the type to go gaga over actors), and seeing how many times his eyes can change from blue to brown in one movie. I half expected it to be one of those movies where you've already seen all the good parts on TV beforehand, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was probably one of the funniest movies I've seen in years, but touching too.

I also picked up another new movie, Just Like Heaven. Reese's movies are always cute....well, except for the one where the guy gets run over by the tractor, but that's another story. It was good, but I kept thinking "didn't I just see this story line on Ghost Whisperer last friday?" I know Just Like Heaven was first, but it was ruined for me a bit.

I didn't watch the Grammys last night. Its been years since I have. I never agree with the results, and just get mad. I do miss the performances, but not enough to miss Invasion. :P

I just finished reading "Pnin" by Vladimir Nabokov about an hour ago, and I refuse to wait until morning to write about it. UGH!

I've known for a long time now that you can't always trust the characters in a story (or the narrator) to give you an accurate account of the situation, but come on this is ridiculous! I was annoyed by the intrusive nature of the narrator from the beginning; and, I didn't recall asking him to give his opinion on the secondary characters, but he did it anyway. Then, in the final chapter, you figure out how he is really connected with the story line. UGH!!!!

Nabokov definitely has the same sense of pointlessness evident in Kafka's work. I happen to love Kafka's "The Metamorphosis", so its not necessarily a bad thing. It certainly makes you stop and think about the issues addressed from many different viewpoints. The character of Pnin also made me think of Eliot's J. Alfred Prufrock in some ways, then turned around and was exactly the opposite.

Thought provoking? Yes. Frustrating? Yes. Worth reading? Hmmmmm.........Yes.

Cancer
The other day I was scanning one of the numerous bookshelves in my home, looking for something interesting to read. I figured that I would find something that I had read years ago, tossed to the side, and would now be able to rediscover. What I found was one of the lost and forgotten that had never even been given a chance to begin with. The book I found was written by a medium named John Edward.

Lots of people are familiar with this man, he had a television show on a few years ago called "Crossing Over with John Edward". My mother was absolutely obsessed with it, and I'll admit that I was interested in it as well. The cynics enjoyed the show too, but for altogether different reasons. It seems that most people either love John Edward or love to bash him from all directions. I'm choosing to take the skeptical path, nothing is completely impossible, just be smart about what you choose to believe.

Anyway, I found this book that I had bought, but had never read, called "One Last Time". This happens to be John Edwards first book, presumably before he was given his own television show and became super famous. It had been purchased at a second-hand bookstore, by evidence of the price sticker still attached. When I found it I looked at it for a few moments, read the back of the book, then thought, "Why not? It wont hurt to read it." So I settled in for a nice, long evening and discovered the beginnings to the career of a medium. I thought it was pretty interesting, even if I am a skeptic. I wouldn't say to go out of your way to find the book, but if it happens to be there, go for it. You can agree or cuss your way through, you pick. :)

This site is called "A Wind of Such Violence", and it is a collection of work from the famous poet Sylvia Plath. The poems are listed in both alphabetical and chronological order.

I got to watch two movies last night. The first one was 'Wedding Crashers'. I had heard that this wasn't a very good movie, they said it was really dirty and all they talked about was boobs. I didn't necessarily agree. I just recently watched 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin', and was told that it was tastefully done. I was completely disgusted by it, and found very little to laugh about. Makes me wonder about these people's idea of tasteful, or maybe I just don't understand that type of humor. Who knows. I enjoyed 'Wedding Crashers' a lot more, and I laughed a lot more. Good thing that I don't like to listen to advice. :P

The second movie I watched last night was 'Must Love Dogs'. Definitely a chick flick, but for me that's a good thing. Gives hope to all single/divorced women out there, that they too may be able to find their very own John Cusack. :)

This has got to be for goth teens. Who else would want to know how they died?

You were betrayed. You were betrayed by someone
very close to you in a past life and you have
still never forgotten it. Either you were
killed by a best friend or ratted out by one,
but it still hurt you very deeply and you don't
trust hardly anyone anymore.

How did you die in your past life? (for everyone)

Has anyone ever watched an entire season of American Idol? I know I never have. I love music (everyone knows that), but enough with the crap already. This is the 5th season of the show, and I have never made it past the audition shows before losing interest. They can be very entertaining, I'll admit; but, why do we need to watch two hours here, and hour there, two more hours, and so on of shows consisting of the delusional? Why can't they just make a show or two consisting of the very worst and move on to what the people really want to see?
